In 2001 he graduated in History and Political Science at the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, and in 2004 earned his PhD in Political Science at the same institution. He submitted his habilitation thesis Česká komunální politika v obcích s rozšířenou působností. Koalice, voličské vzorce a politické strany na místní úrovni v letech 1994-2006 (Czech Local Politics in Municipalities with Extended Competence. Coalitions, Electoral Patterns and Political Parties at the Local Level Between 1994 and 2006) in 2008, thus becoming Associate Professor. Author and co-author of several monographs and a number of articles, his research topics include modern Czech politics, local politics and non-democratic regimes.
